KETAMINE

IV ketamine therapy is a revolutionary therapeutic approach to treating depression. Ketamine therapy is significantly more effective than all other pharmaceuticals, is very safe, and has no side effects. It is usually life-changing.

Several scientific studies, including those conducted at Yale University and the National Institute of Mental Health, have shown that low dose intravenously administered ketamine can dramatically improve symptoms associated with depression. Often, even when other treatments have failed to provide any relief, IV ketamine is effective.

All new patients have a series of six infusions spaced over two or three weeks. Each infusion is 40 minutes long, painless, and well tolerated. Most patients experience significant relief during the series and many remain symptom free for extended periods of time following the initial treatment protocol.

What’s entailed in signing up for and receiving ketamine infusions?

You will begin by placing a call to the phone number listed on this site (502) 333-9257.

While it’s a local number connected to our office, it will be answered in Amesbury, Massachusetts by member of the Neuragain staff. Neuragain (www.neuragain.com) is the company under which we provide ketamine infusion treatment. The people at Neuragain will answer any questions you may have, discuss fees and payment options, and help you schedule your infusions with our office.

On the day of your first infusion, you and any significant other you bring with you will first meet with Dr. Stewart so that he can provide more information about ketamine and more details about how the infusion process works. He’ll explain more about what to expect during infusions and from the series of infusions in general. Dr. Stewart can also answer any preciously unanswered questions you or a loved one might have.

Our infusion nurses work with just one person at a time. Your dose will be tailored to your weight and an IV will be started, usually in the back of your hand. Relaxing in a comfortable recliner, you may listen to your own calming play list or ask for such from our Studio Alexa. (We recommend you choose music without words which can become distracting). You may choose to have the room lights up, down, or colored by LED’s. In the room with you during your infusion you may choose whether you want the nurse, a significant other, or no one at all. In any case, the nurse will always remain close and available should you have questions. You may bring with you a favorite pillow or blanket if this will enhance your comfort.

During your infusion you will likely feel relaxed and at ease. Most commonly people will experience some level of what we call dissociation. This can vary from feeling lightheaded or tipsy to stronger sensations of a dream-like state where colors and music are more vivid and pronounced. It’s important to note that the beneficial effects of ketamine are not dependent on the intensity of one’s experience.

It’s also important to state that regardless of what you experience, you are always aware of where you are, what you’re doing and you are never out of control. In other words, you will always retain full agency over yourself and your surroundings.

Infusions typically last for about 40 minutes. Afterwards you may feel a little unsteady on your feet but your able to converse, relax, and enjoy a cold ginger ale before leaving for home.

Occasionally people will experience nausea with ketamine, especially if you’ve known that to happen with anesthesia previously. The nurse can help you manage this with a quick acting, orally dissolving medication called Zofran.

Dr. Stewart will call you within 24 hrs of your first infusion to see if you have any new questions for him.

Our desire is to provide you with a safe haven for receiving what for many is a profoundly healing and life restoring treatment.
